Le trio berlinois Contagious mêle expérimentation d’avant-garde et musique électronique. Il a été fondé par Andrea Neumann et Sabine Ercklentz, deux voix innovantes de la scène des musiques improvisées berlinoises et par Mieko Suzuki, une DJ activiste des musiques de création. Intense et puissant, mais enraciné dans une tradition du DIY et de l’artisanat sonore. Andrea Neumann, sur un clavier atypique transportable qu’elle a elle-même développé, applique des processus de feedback à de simples cordes de piano et les envoie parfois au système de traitement de Mieko Suzuki, où elle utilise ses propres sons préenregistrés et ses compétences sur les tables tournantes, tandis que les sons de trompette de Sabine Ercklentz passent par ce même système de traitement. Ensemble, les trois musiciens communiquent dans des logiques de composition et des structures futuristes dans lesquelles des textures et des impulsions sonores fragiles deviennent monumentales.

The trio was founded by two innovative voices from the Berlin improvisation scene (Andrea Neumann and Sabine Ercklentz) and Mieko Suzuki, a skilled and creative DJ and musician who has been performing in venues and festivals for a long time.
Contagious is one of the most forward thinking, mind-melting projects to hit the electronic music scene. Intense and powerful, yet rooted in a tradition of shaping and forming in the most creative ways, all built within a sound structure of immediate composition and improvisation. Andrea Neumann on her self-developed, transportable Inside Piano, applies feedback processes to simple piano strings and sometimes sends them to Mieko Suzuki’s processing rig, where she uses her own pre-recorded sounds and her skills on the turntables, while Sabine Ercklentz’s trumpet sounds shoot through this same processing system. Together, the three musicians communicate in compositional logics and futuristic structures in which fragile sonic textures and impulses become monumental.
It is no coincidence that the pieces on the first Contagious album (released in 2019 on Morphine Records) were named after hermaphrodites from the animal world. Neumann, Ercklentz and Suzuki interact like a living creature, transcending binary opposites and ambivalent in the best sense of the word: very enigmatic and very alive.
